Formed in the early 2000s, MARE have become an enigmatic and highly revered presence in the global underground Black Metal scene. With infrequent live performances and limited, hard-to-obtain releases, the band is regarded by many as one of the few remaining authentic Black Metal acts in an increasingly oversaturated landscape. While some interpret their reclusiveness as a calculated stance, those who have worked closely with the group recognize that it arises simply from their inherent nature.
